SPOKEN WORDS CAN’T BE RETRIEVED

A farmer insulted his neighbor. Realizing his mistake, he went to the preacher to ask for forgiveness. The preacher told him to take a bag of feathers and drop them in the center of town. The farmer did as he was told.

Then the preacher asked him to go and collect the feathers and put them back in the bag. The farmer tried but couldn’t as the feathers had all blown away. When he returned with the empty bag, the preacher said, “The same thing is true about your words.

Advice:
You dropped them rather easily but you cannot retrieve them, so be very careful in choosing your words.

My question for my fellow bloggers/viewers/readers:

1. What’s your opinion and contributions on this post?

2. Have you said or use harsh words to someone you know or you just met or having a simple conversation?

3.What was your reaction when you find out you were wrong?

Please let me know all your reactions, views and insights in the comment box below!

  1. Very true though… Words hurt even more than we think and they create and leave a bigger impression… The story is sooo practical… I shouldn’t say it if I know I’ll regret it… #fact

  2. 1. The post is amazing. The story is short, simple yet full of impact.
    2. We all have been there when we use harsh words though we didn’t mean them and sometimes we do mean them.
    3. For me, whenever I did that I realised it the very moment after saying so. After that I either apologize for what I said or I let the other person take out their heart out on me, irrespective how harsher they grew.

This is the most interesting part I like in the comment “””I either apologize for what I said”‘
Is all about asking for forgiveness, if after self examination of one’s conscious.

      • Thank you! The post will be waiting for you and ready to be read. 😁

        As for the questions:
I was raised by my parents in a way that I need to be very keen with the words I utter. I have never had a serious experience with using harsh words. However, I would like to support your claim on this post of yours. As users of language, as a communicator, we must try our best to be a source of love, life and light through our words; that is we must be careful with our words.

  4. Choose your words wisely! There is nothing more powerful than words. They have a power to influence others.

So, one should take care of the following points:
    1. “Watch your words”
words are powerful and communicate what we desire and how we are perceived.

    2. Monitor them- Are we aware of the message they may send out and what we may bring back in as a result?

    3. Words are so powerful and reflect our thoughts. So, think twice before speaking.

And, even if I say anything wrong so I am loyal to my fault. I apologize immediately. 😊

  5. I was raised to be very aware of my words. They can give life or tear down! Since I blog, I deal in words and realize how important they are. We can encourage others with just a simple word or statement. I always pray that “the words of my mouth will be pleasing in GOD’S sight.” Unfortunately Social Media has given people a “voice” to say whatever they want without consequences. The saddest story I have ever heard was about a girl who committed suicide and her note said…….”I am doing this because he said…..”
Words can kill and destroy. Let us all think before we speak, think before we comment and respond only with compassion and love for one another! Our words can speak life into someone and they show our true character!

  9. I’ve thought careless words in my head and they affected my interaction with someone. Even those words transmit hurt and negativity. That person sensed my standoffish demeanor – it took time and only partially healed the wound I made. Words – in all dimensions- they have so much power.

Yes, I have hurt one or two people in my life with my words. I genuinely regret it. I’ve apologised but I’m also helpless now. I cannot bring back time. Lovely post!💜

  11. My idea of the topic is fairly simple. When I do – and I’m fully aware of my blunt honesty and sarcastic nature – say something, the responsibility lies within. Words are tools and also weapons or bullets if we’re using them in the right context, when the guilt comes by it means it went too far, but for someone who breaks taboo and says the truth – either brutal or not – the strength and responsibility have to be in place.

      • Thank you, but I’m not taking compliments although appreciate.

I do use words that are not acceptable, you see, once you observe and get into depths of a matter, would you rather lie or tell the truth on purpose? Even though those words are bringing in pain or joy – it happens. This is two way street, cannot say the guilt is never chasing me, or the pain, or a loss of precious people. If it means I can remain who I am, well, need to take it. The path I have chosen as I was born with traits off the margin.

Would elaborate further, but there is no need I believe.

I agree to that part, me too I have used words that are not appealing to the ears, use vulgar words to tarnish someone image in a discussion. But this words can’t be retrieved after been spoken by the person.

  13. Words can build and at the same time destroy. Like u said…. “once said, can never be retrieved”.
I know how much hurtful words can tear one apart I have been a witness to that. And I feel guilty and hurt when I utter hurtful words to someone because I know how it feels.
But like it is…we only realise we did wrong…when we said the words already😅😅.
So I learned to take a pause, and shut my mouth and mind, and then count 1 to 10 within me, before I can give a response to someone who’s dishing out hurtful words to me.

Besides, silence is the best answer a fool deserves so I don’t need to talk. I only talk once in a while. My dad is a pastor so we don’t speak in ungodly manners. Thank you Mr Patrick, I am miss Laura.

  14. Wonderful short story / flash fiction which reads like a powerful parable.
There’s not much you can do to take back what you’ve said or what you’ve written. I suppose you can always apologise to lessen the hurt and try to repair the damage done somehow.
Fortunately, most people are forgiving if the apology is timely and sincere.

  15. Appreciating the persistence you put into your site and in depth information you present. It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same outdated rehashed information. Great read! I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m adding your RSS feeds to my Google account.

  17. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is excellent blog. A fantastic read. I’ll certainly be back.

  18. Wow, this is a heavy one! Look at all that weight in a little post. In my opinion, I think this story is as factual as it can get.
It will be a lie to say one has never used harsh words. I have and in the heat of the moment, I never realise it. However, I always apologize, when I am wrong. Sorry is a very powerful word and has heavy impact, so i use it but never abuse it.
Home and self training is everything. I can say for a fact, that, I go mute than pass judgement. So i drink loads of water

  19. Howdy! Quick question that’s completely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My blog looks weird when browsing from my iphone. I’m trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to correct this issue. If you have any recommendations, please share. Many thanks!

  22. Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you know a few of the images aren’t loading correctly. I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same outcome.
