Who can tell me where Maria is?
At the cold end of Ikogosi spring
I looked at the flow of this cold spring
I thought Maria sitting by the side of this cold spring
But this cold end of my Ikogosi
Became an ocean current
It was an endless search in
My pacific ocean
I looked at the warm end of my Ikogosi
It was better than a hot plate
Where is my Maria?
I could only find a clone Maria
At the Ikogosi convergence
There lies cloned Maria
Mixed in the hot and cold spring
Conjugation gave me a minute sense
It was not Maria’s unique bonding
All I recall was Maria makes me whole
All grave become six more feet
The undertakers carried a living corpse
It was a condolence of Ignorance
Despite who I am now
I know Maria left with a part of me
If she came back, bonding was same
Then who is this drone after bonding

STRUCTURAL REVIEW
Oscillation is a poem that portrays the social transaction between two ‘die hard’ lovers.
Unlike Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet where the story lies on the distinction in status between Romeo background and that of Juliet. The lovers in this poem (oscillation) experienced not only status difference, but class differences. The poet justifies the experience of the lovers in Oscillation with an identity to that of the experience of Jack and Rose in the movie entitled ‘Titanic’ and Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in respect of statues and class differences.
The poem does not only wear a tragic blanket but also has elements of chaos becoming the order of the day for both lovers.
Line 1-5of the poem tell us about the mood of one of the lovers.
Line 1-5
Who can tell me where Maria is?
At the cold end of Ikogosi spring
I looked at the flow of this cold spring
I thought Maria sitting by the side of this cold spring
The preceding expression by the lover in this poem tells how experience several mood swings in his subconscious. The subconscious of the lover in this poem is likened to the cold end of IKOGOSI.
The IKOGOSI warm spring is a tourist attraction located at IKOGOSI, a town in Ekiti state, Southern western Nigeria. Flowing abreast the warm spring is another cold spring at a confluence, each maintaining its thermal properties. The attributions of IKOGOSI warm and cold spring’s thermal properties to the loves subconscious is figurative and tends to be factual of the natural , sometimes mixed feelings of humans.
Line 10–I looked at the warm end of my Ikogosi
Here line 10 of the poem shows the expression of the lover as this thought roam the warm end of IKOGOSI spring. Even in the lover’s subconscious and his physical search for his Maria, he ends up confused .
This poem has a story line. It began with two passionate lovers who began experiencing challenges because of parental religious background and class distinction. The main story has it that the parents of the boy(Jubril) who are very rich and are Muslims introduced a plan to get rid of their son’s Maria who was a Christian and from a very poor background. The parent of Maria where not also in support of their daughters relationship with Jubril. The parents of Jubril decided to clone another Maria for their son,but after love making with cloned Maria ,Jubril’s confusion becomes more of a tangle. His suspicious and doubt becomes more stronger. He suspects he is not with the same Maria he loves.
The poet intention analyse the deep thought of Jubril love for Old Maria and doubt for cloned Maria. The poet MORDI IFEANYI APEX also seek to portray the religious misfit and class conflicts in an under-developed society, a developing society and sometimes a developed society.
The poet main intention of this poem is to let us understand the ‘ products’ of religious and class wars.
Jubril new transformation in confusion, cloned Maria and old Maria are all results of this religious, and class wars. The lover (Jubril) in the poem expresses thus:
Lines 18-21
Conjugation gave me a minute sense
It was not Maria unique bonding
All I recall was Maria make me whole
All grave became six more feet
Line 25-28
Despite who I am now
I know Maria left with a part of me
If she came back, bonding was same
Then who is this drone after bonding
The above expression from Jubril is his new state when his doubts for the cloned Maria become stronger.
Despite the accident he had,he could still distinguish that the woman with him is not really his true Maria. Even love making with cloned Maria confirms his doubts.

There is a very subtle distinction, between involving the parents of each, in a marriage run-up and allowing them total choice in the matter. I believe the distinction lies in whether the parents are willing to give the man and woman the initial choice in forming the relationship.

The poem is small but with a rich and deep meaning. When I read it I found lot of terms from Chemistry and Physics involved, like oscillation, cold, hot, current, bond, clone, converge.I don’t know whether the author has used it purposefully, even then I loved those terms in the poem. And identity stands as a barrier to their love.In ‘Romeo Juliet’ Juliet says to Romeo,
“Deny thy father and refuse thy name,
Or if thou wilt not,be sworn my love,
And I’ll no longer be a Capulet”
Their families acts as an obstacle in their love.

Your beautiful words just made my day OK now.
Thank you so much for adding such magical drop of words in my jar of motivation and inspiration. I feel blessed by what you said at the beginning of your comment as i quote:
“”””‘ The poem is small but with a rich and deep meaning. When I read it I found lot of terms from Chemistry and Physics involved, like oscillation, cold, hot, current, bond, clone, converge. “””””
Those where the words used by the poet to justify the physic and chemistry between the two loved ones.
As I read deeper in to your comment I saw something’s that touched me very much which is this part in your comment:
“”” And identity stands as a barrier to their love. “””
This is where I know you good in recalling and giving the exact quotations from the novel:
Juliet says to Romeo,
“”Deny thy father and refuse thy name,
Or if thou wilt not,be sworn my love,
And I’ll no longer be a Capulet”
Finally, why will the love last if
“””Their families acts as an obstacle in their love. “”””
I found delight love in what you just said about my post OSCILLATION in the comment session.
Again such a beautiful way to express it on my blog/post

Closed minded ideologies have an effect on many things, causing many to fear to follow their dreams… usually ending in needless suffering. pain and anger… “I would rather have a mind opened by wonder than one closed by belief” Gerry Spence
In order to find happiness, sometimes one has to ignore society…it can be challenging at times but worth it in the end… that is why I have taken the path least traveled.. 🙂
“Be happy. Be yourself. If others don’t like it, then let them be. Happiness is a choice, life isn’t about pleasing everybody”.

Thank you. I am happy to see your detailed comment on this post. It gives me a thoughtful thinking and am happy for that. That is always my intention to see a comment that gives me a thoughtful thinking and deep meaning about life.
As always your comment are incredible and I enjoying reading every word down till the last line. I must say that you are probably one of the excellent bloggers on WordPress.
What you said in your comment is true.
I enjoyed this part where you said:
“”””Closed minded ideologies have an effect on many things, causing many to fear to follow their dreams”””””
I guess belief are what causes most of the religious wars, class war, and status war we have in our society.
Am touche by the inspirational quote by GERRY SPENCE :
“””’would rather have a mind opened by wonder than one closed by belief””””
The two lover were looking for happiness so they have to ignore such belief. It not easy but but worth it in the end.
Finally, you just made you last opinion and contribution as I quote from your comment:
“Be happy. Be yourself. If others don’t like it, then let them be. Happiness is a choice, life isn’t about pleasing everybody”. “”””‘
This last part of the comment touched me because the lover have to neglect their belief despite their parents not accepting it.
Am surprise sometimes by that drop of comment in this enough to get a person to thinking with your beautiful post to back it up.
So keep the vibes flowing.
Thanks for the wonderful comment
Cheers,

The poem at first do seemed to have a deeper meaning. I did got the feel of pain and segregation of two lovers and also knew something terrible had happened. But after reading the explanation part, I got to know what was really happening. It is amazing to put an explanation to the poem below it. I loved the deepness of the poem.

This was a very intense and thought-provoking poem. I must say, the detailed description does answer a lot of questions that arise in the reader but there still remain a few questions, like, will the two true lovers ever meet? Will the confusion be resolved? Who is the cloned Maria and what is her eventual fate? Why does society create such scenarios where no one is benefitted (neither the lovers, the new Maria, the parents nor the society itself)?
This poem has its own beauty as it depicts the true scenario of today’s society!

Thank you! I appreciate your thoughtful response and comment on the post.
Yes, I tend to be very logical with the poem.
So I relate the poem with things happening in our society and the religious crisis.
Am quite happy about how you read the poem to the end. Yeah actually as you said in the beginning
“””This was a very intense and thought-provoking poem. “”
I tried to make it more intense ,deep and thoughtful.
I was able make the poem to be a suspense to my readers and viewers.
So I have to make a structural review on it to put off they mind of suspense.
Most of my readers and viewers thoughts are on Jubril, Cloned Maria, Maria and her death will appear to be :
1. Will he(Jubril) find another Maria, an individual who meets his requirement and fills the role and the void within him.
2. Is the woman in the casket actually Maria, or is it a clone?
3. Was he lost in an empty space, does this complex situation give him peace.
3. Will Maria return to him, or will he find another, or will cloned Maria make him complete.
4. What if he discovers the cloned Maria. What we be his state?
From your own views I know you have a lot of questions to ask me. As I progress and read in your comment I was able to caption some thoughtful questions some of the readers and viewers we be asking like:
1. Will the two true lovers ever meet?
2. Will the confusion be resolved?
3. Who is the cloned Maria and what is her eventual fate?
4. Why does society create such scenarios where no one is benefitted (neither the lovers, the new Maria, the parents nor the society itself)?
Yeah. The poem has such a deep, thoughtful and intense meaning like you said in your comment:
“””This poem has its own beauty as it depicts the true scenario of today’s society! “”””
Again,I like to write a post and a well organized write up which lets me process my thoughts in an organized useful way to my fellow readers/bloggers!:)

Dearest Patrick, I thought a lot if I should comment on your poem, because, from the first reading, before seeing your wonderful explanations, I felt like this is NOT a poem about love…It made me think and meditate about the Middle East crisis, about Palestine, about all the conflicts generated by false ideologies and leaders.
It made me pray…May we open the eyes of our souls, to see that true faith should unite us and true love should make us better. May fanaticism never stand a chance in front of the pure hearts of the young generation…
I spoke too much, again 🙂 Forgive me if I was way out base, it’s just my input on this amazing piece of writing.

The poem has many view depending on who making such review. I base my view base on religious crisis happening between lovers who have different religions and they parents didn’t accept it at all for the lovers.
Am happy you related it to the happening in middle east as you quoted in your comment and about the false ideologies and leaders.
Here is the quote:
“”””” It made me think and meditate about the Middle East crisis, about Palestine, about all the conflicts generated by false ideologies and leaders. “””””
The only thing we should have and keep us moving is the believe in true faith and true love.

The storyteller or poetry creator appears in this setting to be lonely his entire being filled with guilt and grievances. His thoughts are on Maria and her death, this thoughts appear to be, “will he find another Maria, an individual who meets his requirement and fills the role and the void within him. Is the woman in the casket actually Maria, or is it a clone? Was he lost in an empty space, does this complex situation give him peace. Will Maria return to him, or will he find another, or will only Maria make him complete. This is the premise that I received from your story. I love it, the story it told was deep and painful, and no love can be replaced. You can only hope there is another that will somehow fill the void. Good Luck, E.

2. Is the woman in the casket actually Maria, or is it a clone?

From you review above. This are the deep thought of Jubril at the moment.

Yes, in our society there’s so much religious intolerance and sadly people are firm in their thinking of what they value before everything, and it’s religion i mean religion is a very serious matter, that’s an individual’s personal value but humanity comes first, and if someone practices their religion then they suppose to be aware of their religion teachings and as far as i know no religion spread the message of discrimination and violence against each other, when it comes to love, i wish it could happen only between two people from same faith so that fanatic people in our society would be more tolerant because i don’t want to witness tragic end of someone’s love story, Thanks for asking my thoughts 🙏

Thanks for replying and answering the question put across you.
Your beautiful comment and agreement to this post on my blog just made my evening.
I found delight love in what you just said on my post.
This is where people get it wrong, they take religious belief first before humanity.
Am happy you were able to connect the poem to religious and society crisis, as you said in the beginning part of your comment.
Here is the quote:
“””””” religion is a very serious matter, that’s an individual’s personal value but humanity comes first “”””””
As I viewed further on your comment I was able to see what touches my heart:
“”””as far as i know no religion spread the message of discrimination and violence against each other “”””
Every religion preach peace and love. They don’t preach violence and hatred against each other.
I agree and support that part completely where you said :
“””””when it comes to love, i wish it could happen only between two people from same faith so that fanatic people in our society would be more tolerant “””””
Agreement base on the same faith and religious is quite OK. Since fanatic people in our society would be more tolerant and in agreement with the same faith and religious.
This part made me smile 😁😁😁😁😁 when you said:
“”””” i don’t want to witness tragic end of someone’s love story “””””
I just thought quickly about Romeo and Juliet occurrence as I stated in the poem analysis.
Again such a beautiful comment on this post.
Keep the love and peace on.

Ohh yes Patrick I do think it does connect to the Moslems/Christianity misunderstanding. I won’t term it war. The name of the lady maria in the poem depicts Christianity (Catholicism) and the set up of the poem which is at Ikogosi, I’ll would say brings to my mind Moslems and the feud which goes on in the religious world. In the poem, Maria and her lover are also separated by contrasting religious backgrounds. (One more eye opener with regards the poem)

I just skimmed through your comment and the comment was wow. And I must say, it really cool, it that gives people a chance to think about the feud between the Moslems and Christians.

Is so sad this happens so often there were worlds apart but they loved each other the springs are the river’s of life
Separating them but his love was real he knew
Another would never take her place is just as dramatic as Romeo and Juliet
Loved It beautiful reading. It had love it was warm and it had sadness
The makings of a real
Romantic tragedy

Very interesting poem! Loved it! I have a few theories for your metaphor, but my most prevailing theory is that part of Maria has died mentally, and what is left of her is emotionally distant, based on the metaphor of the river and the oceans. Am I close? That was a very complicated poem and I’ll admit that I was fairly confused by your explanation. Thoughts?

I enjoyed this part where you said:
“””” I have a few theories for your metaphor, but my most prevailing theory is that part of Maria has died mentally, and what is left of her is emotionally distant, based on the metaphor of the river and the oceans. “”””
Her death was the most interesting part of the poem. Her death made Jubril have troubled mind, doubting when he was with the cloned Maria.
I enjoying reading every word down till the last line. The last word just made me smile “””Thoughts “””
Well, If I wish to be happy is inevitable to keep the vibes flowing.
Cheers,
PATRICK
