IN HONOUR OF WOMEN

In Honour Of Women

They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy.
They laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up for injustice.
They don’t take “no” for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without new shoes so their children can have them.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a new marriage.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They have sorrow at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.Women come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes.
They’ll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world spin!
Women do more than just give birth. They bring joy and hope.
They give compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have a lot to say and a lot to give.
Pass this along to your women friends,

to remind them how amazing they are.
My question for my fellow bloggers/viewers/readers:
1. What’s your opinion and contributions on this post/poem?
2. What are the things your mother have done that are worthy of appreciation?
3.What are your advice to young mothers in the outside world?

  2. So very true. I wouldn’t want to give up being a woman matter how many man wish see these traits as being something negative. Also, thank you for coming to my blog for Jamie. Its a hard life for people caught in the prison system. Writing a biography and music is time consuming. Its hard to get back to blogs that are worthwhile to read.Read a chapter r two. Tell me what you think. Have a great weekend.

  3. This was beautiful. Salute to the amazing brothers out there also.
My mother left when I was eleven months old. I met her at the age of 21. Meeting her was the start of finding my voice and most importantly although she left. She gave me life and I am so grateful to her for that.

My advice to young mothers would be that we are all figuring it out. No one has a Pinterest perfect, carebears, rainbows and glitter motherhood path. LOL! Pressure reveals what is in you. So you will lose yourself sometimes and come home to yourself a lot. Something about loving any human your greatest teacher especially your children. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You are still beautiful. Motherhood is not a grave where dreams go to die. You are capable. Stay grounded when you can. Fly when you need to. Hold tight to your faith forever.

    • I just skimmed through your comment and the comment was wow. And I must say, it really cool.

      OK that is really true.

Love this part where you said :

‘”””””””” No one has a Pinterest perfect, care bears, rainbows and glitter motherhood path.

      “””””””””

Motherhood is not about trying to be a perfect among all. Put try and see that you do things in a perfect way and manner.

As I went down I saw a good number of advice you said in your comment. Am touched by this little gestures of advice you gave out.

From the summary of the advice is all about
      1.Teaching your children.
      2. Love and confidence.
      3. Having a strong and tight Faith.

I guess this characteristics in your advice to mothers matters a lot.

Thanks for commenting. I appreciate your views on this post.

  4. Lovely tribute to your mother and sister. I admire Chimamanda Adiche’s writing.
One thing I am thankful for is that my mother instilled in me a strong sense of gratitude/ thankfulness, as we were without a father and we didn’t always get everything we wanted! She also laid a strong spiritual foundation for me since birth, teaching me about God, living by faith and how to pray.😁

    • Hi
Thanks for commenting on my post. I appreciate your thoughtful comment on this post about women.

Thank you. I am happy to see your comment on this post. It gives me a thoughtful thinking and am  happy for that. That is always my intention to see a comment that gives me happiness and also a comment about a person view on a post/poem.

Am happy you shared at least a part of that view of women.

What you said in your comment box about the post is true.

As I read through your comment, am in total agreement with this because I was taught also about all this things by my mother:

      1. Strong spiritual foundation.
      2. Teaching me about God.
      3.Living by faith and
      4. How to pray.😁

Each roles of mothers are different depending on there capabilities. So its nice not to compare another persons mother to others.

In the beginning you draw my attention about about not having a Father. Am touched by this:

“””””””” One thing I am thankful for is that my mother instilled in me a strong sense of gratitude/ thankfulness, as we were without a father and we didn’t always get everything we wanted! “”””””””

Am really sorry for that. OK. All is well.

Well, am happy you said your view about this post.

Finally, I will love to ask a simple question.

What are your advice to young mothers in the outside world?

Love to see a nice and beautiful reply on the question put after you.

You have captured so much of what is taken for granted in our patriarchal societies and your words are a challenge to all men and to society in general – your profoundly moving words and the addition of the great writer Chinamanda Adichie is a deeply personal and powerful tribute to women.

      • In response to your questions, my friend …

        1. It is not easy for women to express their individuality and to be respected for who they are in the society in which I live. It is a very judgemental society and unfortunately, still in the 21st century – what men say is taken seriously while disregarding the views and opinions of women.

        2. My mother was a nurse and worked in the 1950s and 1960s at a time in South Africa when Apartheid was firmly entrenched and I think her respect for patients and the sick people she nursed is worthy of appreciation. It is always heartwarming to meet an older person who has kind words to say about ones mother.

        3. It is very difficult for a man to offer advice to women in general and young mothers in particular. As a man I am unable to truly understand what it means and feels like to be a mother. It would be so much more true for me to hear your words of advice to young mothers in the outside world.

Thank you again and warmest wishes.

Peace and Hope and Equality for All ✌✊👍

        • Thanks for the comment. Thank for the reply also. Thanks for taking your time to read.

A brilliantly written and moving comment/reply based on the question asked about the post.

As I skimmed through your answers, the words you used are marvelous and beautiful.

In response to question 1 that you answered
All are based by authority and male dominance in some organization in the society making women less respected in the society as there views and opinion are not considered as anything because she is a women.

According to a popular literature book “”” we should all be feminist “””

FEMINIST Adichie Chimanmanda Ngozi she says in her book:

          ********************************************

Men and women are different. We have different hormones and different sexual organs
and different biological abilities—women can have babies, men cannot. Men have more
testosterone and are, in general, physically stronger than women. There are slightly
more women than men in the world—52 percent of the world’s population is female—
but most of the positions of power and prestige are occupied by men. The late Kenyan
Nobel peace laureate Wangari Maathai put it simply and well when she said, the higher
you go, the fewer women there are.

          ********************************************

Because of this it gave rise to gender equality that is been declared by feminist.

According to a popular literature book “””. Dear ijeawele or a feminist manifesto in fifteen suggestions “””

FEMINIST Adichie Chimanmanda Ngozi she says in her book:

          “”””””” Teach her, too, to
question the idea of women as a special species. I once heard an American politician, in his
bid to show his support for women, speak of how women should be ‘revered’ and
‘championed’ – a sentiment that is all too common.
Tell Chizalum that women actually don’t need to be championed and revered; they just need
to be treated as equal human beings. There is a patronizing undertone to the idea of women
needing to be ‘championed and revered’ because they are women. It makes me think of
chivalry, and the premise of chivalry is female weakness.

          “”””””

The society again has made male patriarchy’s so important that women are not given any position. Again also in terms of power and authority, the society has made men as the point to handle such. Even in the school setting, government establishment and private firm. Women are seen as less and weak to accept such position.

Thus making this easy for men to suppress women.

Am still interested in this your answer to question 1. There is a part I love most as I quote:

“””””””‘” It is a very judgemental society and unfortunately, still in the 21st century- what men say is taken seriously while disregarding the views and opinions of women. “””””””

I was able to deduced a prove to that statement of yours after some reading of one of the popular feminist well know as FEMINIST Adichie Chimanmanda Ngozi

According to a popular literature book “””. Dear ijeawele or a feminist manifesto in fifteen suggestions “””

FEMINIST Adichie Chimanmanda Ngozi she says in her book:

“””””””” But here is a sad truth: our world is full of men and women who do not like powerful
women. We have been so conditioned to think of power as male that a powerful woman is an
aberration. And so she is policed. We ask of powerful women – is she humble? Does she
smile? Is she grateful enough? Does she have a domestic side? Questions we do not ask of
powerful men, which shows that our discomfort is not with power itself, but with women. We
judge powerful women more harshly than we judge powerful men “””””””””

Because of the ideal of power, authority and patriarchy’s, this again gave rise to different opinion to make women agitating for gender equality there by forming the word FEMINISM and FEMINIST.

Another response you gave about the role of your mum as a nurse during the time of apartheid in southafrica. Her role was cool.

I just remember one of our own African activist, a mother, sister,an anti-apartheid heroine Winnie Madikizela-Mandela “Mother of the South African Nation,” has a legacy of one of the nation’s most important fighters against racial discrimination and a fighter against apartheid. May her soul rest in peace.

For the answered to question 3.
You clearly stated that you are not in the position to know the advice to young women. I understand you. Even me too am not in the position to do that also.

          But one things is that they should teach there children or child;

          1. Peace
          2.Love
          3. Equality
          4.truthful
          5.patience.

Thanks for giving a chance to talk to you. Am please now I have someone who have my same idea as I have.

I am interested to know as someone of African descent you write and talk about feminism rather than womanism. That is why I ask for your ethnicity. To answer your questions; To be honest, an accute and concise answer is ‘Everything’ – Everything of my mother is of worth and worth appreciating. What would I say to young mothers in the outside world? (not sure what you define as “outside”) – “Choose to be Strong”
            Have a good day.

            • Thanks for the comment. I appreciate your time used in reading the poem.

I know am African. I talk so much about FEMINISM because I hate how women are viewed in the society.

We all are equal. Therefore i preach FEMINISM,GENDER EQUALITY and FEMINIST.

Thanks for bringing up this matter about FEMINISM. I really liked comment! And it seems you are interested in me!
I do not believe men and women should be “forced” to be the same. And I don’t think the fact that we are not the same is a problem – on the contrary, diversity is a strength.

And exactly as you say, I strongly believe in equal rights and opportunity for all, regardless of gender (or skin colour, ethnicity etc). I believe everyone should be respected as a unique individual and not judged on the basis of being a woman or man, black or white etc.

This is because most of the feminists I have encountered – in real life and online – have not shared the beliefs and values I described above. They have instead showed contempt, anger and even hatred towards men in general.

That is not what I preach. Instead i preach about gender equality for both men and women.

Therefore most FEMINIST don’t get it. They use it as a backup to cover there tracks about men.

Nooooooooooo. That is not what FEMINISM is all about.

I know that this is not at all true about all feminists. And I wish all feminists should have that mindset which i have.

As I went further I saw an inspired comment about your mother. That is good and beautiful.

By OUTSIDE I mean women in the society, community, town and cities.
What advice to give to them? OK

              • My reference to you being African and feminism vs womanism is because the concept of WOMANISM is of African origin. It doesn’t surprise me you don’t agree with some feminists. What you are describing to be the “ideal” feminism is womanism. Feminism is founded on white Women perspectives that did not take black Women issues into account. Womanism is about reconciliation. I am Polynesian I identify as a Womanist.

                • You getting it wrong.
Am not specifically saying any continent or region based on the feminism or womanism.

You brought the womanism in to discussion.

Whether womanism or FEMINISM. What I preach here is gender equality.

From my own perception, I support the feminist and what they are fighting for. All humans should be equal both in the society and inside the home. Therefore womanism and FEMINISM fight for equal Right.

Feminist fight for equality with men. I support them very well. And I love there point of view and what they try to fight for.

Again am not been racist here like saying womanism is African and FEMINISM is white.

Feminist can be from any where around the world. Feminist are not subjected to the White or black like you said in your comment above as I quote:

                  1. My reference to you being African and feminism vs womanism is because the concept of WOMANISM is of African origin.

                  2. Feminism is founded on white Women perspectives that did not take black Women issues into account.

Feminism is all about gender equality. You can still check the definition of it on Google.

                  From google using Wikipedia

“”” Feminism is a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social equality of sexes. This includes seeking to establish educational and professional opportunities for women that are equal to those for men. “”””

From the definition of it. Feminism is not attached to any black or white people.

Attaching black feminist or white feminist make it look as a racism between the two. All feminist fight for equality.

As I read deep in to your reply I saw something of interest:

“”””” It doesn’t surprise me you don’t agree with some feminists. “”””

I have to prove you wrong on this. I totally agree with feminist.

You can check on my post/work on FEMINISM. Here is the link on that.

A VIEW ON WOMAN IN THE SOCIETY- FATE OF A MANGO FRUIT

                  https://patrickrealstories.wordpress.com/2018/10/07/fate-of-a-mango-fruit/

This post/work I did is one of my best work I did on women. Where I was able to analyze women in the society based on the poem using the mango tree.

All the comments I get all are also prove about my acceptance of FEMINIST and FEMINISM. My reply to all the comments are also proves how I support FEMINIST and FEMINISM in generally.

From my comment I didn’t state anything about black feminist or white feminist.

Its clear am talking about FEMINISM and FEMINIST in generally.

Here is also a link about the comments and replies I gave to most of them.

                  https://patrickrealstories.wordpress.com/2018/10/07/fate-of-a-mango-fruit/

As I read in your comment about WOMANISM being attached to African.

I ran towards google to check the different in it for FEMINISM.

                  As I read about WOMANISM.

                  From Wikipedia:

WOMANISM is a social theory based on the history and everyday experiences of women of color. It seeks, according to womanist scholar Layli Maparyan (Phillips), to “restore the balance between people and the environment/nature and reconcil[e] human life with the spiritual dimension”.

                  Or

a form of feminism that acknowledges women’s natural contribution to society (used by some in distinction to the term feminism and its association with white women).

I was able to get what you said about FEMINISM and WOMANISM.

Now I understand what you saying about the two FEMINISM and WOMANISM.

I was able to understand the differences between both of them.

                  For instance, feminist battles for:

                  1. Universal suffrage;
                  2. Labor rights for women;
                  3. Reproductive rights for women;
                  4. Gender equality;
                  5. Decrease of violence against women;
                  6. Equal employment opportunities;
                  7. Equal rights of owning properties; and
                  8. Changes in the patriarchal society.

In fact, feminism mainly fought against In fact, feminism mainly fought against the stereotypical ideals of the patriarchal society. Patriarchy was (and is) a system of power that divided societies on the basis of “traditional” gender roles.

                  Conversely, women faced several restrictions:

                  1. They could not vote;
                  2. They could not actively participate in the country’s political life;
                  3. (Sometimes) they could not work nor study;
                  4. They could not own properties;
                  5.They had to work in the household and take care of their children;
                  6. (Sometimes) they did not have autonomy over their own bodies.

Womanism originates from the intersectionality of oppression and discrimination faced by black women in all societies. In fact, black women’s struggle with oppression is tridimensional as they are confronted with:

                  Classism;
                  Sexism; and
                  Racism
In all societies, black women earn less than everyone else does; they are often marginalized and discriminated, and crimes (abuses, violence, killings, etc.) against black women are underreported and forgotten. Sadly, feminist movements often failed to address the plight of black women and to involve black and Latina women in their protests.

Different between both of them are listed here:

Both feminism and womanism are comprised within the framework of the struggle for women’s rights. However, there are key differences between the two:

                  1. Feminism was mainly confined to middle and upper class white women and ignored the needs of black women, whereas womanism is focused on the tridimensional oppression faced by black women (sexism, racism and classism);

                  2. Feminists often consider men as their enemies while womanists show solidarity with black men in their struggle against oppression and racism;

                  3. Feminism strives for gender equality while womanism aims at gender reconciliation;
Feminists often showed a lack of respect and interest in the rights of non-white women while womanists always took into consideration the rights and needs of black, Latino and white women.

                  4. Womanists embrace womanhood and female sexuality whereas feminists often tried to keep the distance from anything feminine – although this is gradually changing.

                  5. Feminists defined “women’s rights” on the basis of their personal experience and universalized the concept of “emancipation;” conversely, womanists and black women wanted to “create a criterion by which women of color can assess their realities, both in thought and in action;”

                  6. Feminism is female-centered and issue-based whereas womanism centers black women and is equally concerned about all forms of oppression.

Thanks for giving me the idea about FEMINISM and WOMANISM. But now am able to know the difference.

                  You are welcome dear friend

                  • It is OK and not racist to separate or associate feminism with white women and womanism with black women. That is the reality. Real conversation needs to happen without being politically correct to silence real issues. It is necessary to know the differences. I am not challenging you support women, I am engaging with you to help you understand women better. I liked your Mango writing because it was an interesting critique of your male perspective of women. However, I do feel I need to correct you in your comment above regarding the mango writing, you wrote:
” Where I was able to analyze women in the society based on the poem using the mango tree. ” It is incorrect to say you or anyone were ABLE to analyse women in society – however one may say it is their analytical view of women in society. And to say you analysed women in society is a huge generalization that is wrong. Its amazing men like you advocate your women!!! And I love how you write as a man about women, its good for contrast and sharing. Sometimes, men do so with their hearts and what they perceive/experienced from women but often dont fully understand the woman. This is shown by your perspective as a male the need to provide me an outline of generic definitions to a woman. Particularly to a woman that is well versed in feminism and womanism. The two concepts intertwine and necessary to learn together! but they are very different in their origins of “fighting” Not what they necessary believe in but in what is included and omitted from the two concepts.- feminism and womanism BOTH fought for equality but feminism it did not take on Black (Black meaning ALL coloured) women struggles such as oppression and racism from white men, social systems AND WHITE WOMEN including white feminists. Women needs and beliefs cannot be understood from feminism platform only. That approach in itself is reflective of a dominant approach. Feminism does not represent all womens beliefs in seeking equality – it is a part of it. Stay blessed. P.s take wikipedia with a grain of salt 🙂

                    • Since it’s OK by you. No problem. Everyone with there own views and preceptive.

This is as a result to what you said – It is OK and not racist to separate or associate feminism with white women and womanism with black women.)

Another stuff I get in you comment is this particular way I place my post according to you:

“””””” It is incorrect to say you or anyone were ABLE to analyse women in society – however one may say it is their analytical view of women in society. And to say you analysed women in society is a huge generalization that is wrong. “”””””

Thanks for that correction. I grab what you saying. Am OK with. I will get that done as soon as possible. Thanks again for that correction.

Now am able to see a clear view about you FEMINISM and WOMANISM. I can get up to three things here:

1.feminism and womanism BOTH fought for equality but feminism did not take on Black (Black meaning ALL coloured) women struggles such as oppression and racism from white men, social systems AND WHITE WOMEN including white feminists.

                      2. Women needs and beliefs cannot be understood from feminism platform only.

                      3. Feminism does not represent all womens beliefs in seeking equality- it is a part of it.

But one thing am able to understand in FEMINISM and WOMANISM is that they fight for Equality.

Both of them are interwoven. According to Alice Walker She says:

“”””” Womanist is to feminist as purple is to lavender. “””””

Ohhhhhh. Really!!!!!!! do you really mean that. (take wikipedia with a grain of salt 🙂)

I guess I like the way you replied me. You are just honest and straight to the point.

                      Thanks again.

                  • FhxTake Chimamanda for example she is african but she identifies or refers to herself as a feminists – thats her. Others that are not african may gravitate to womanism – my point is you cannot write about women if one does not take these complexities into account or understand womanism and feminism coexist. My comment regarding why im not surprised you dont agree with some feminists, because you stated you didnt agree with some feminists and you wished ALL feminists would have your mindset. Why? Why would a man want women to have the same mindset as he regarding feminism? Why would women take on a mans perspective about women? Surely in the platform of feminism and equality you know that is questionable and goes against it.

Is the not enough for me to write about women.

The source of my inspiration about women came from that feminist Chimamanda.

I have read and know her for like 10years. I used her views on FEMINISM. Again she is not a labelled as a black feminist. She is address as a feminist.

Am very happy for you to attack me. It make me have this idea : NO ONE IS PERFECT.

It give me the courage to write more about views and contribution of one’s comment on any published post I make.

This is why i normally put “”contribution and views”” on each post.

I normally put in my post so that anybody can attack me . It makes me think more about life and see how to make impact on the society using my platform(patrickreallstories) as a source.

So I buy your opinion and views here. It still an added knowledge to me. Again NO ONE IS PERFECT.

We try to make ourselves perfect by heeding or following the things which we like most.

Again PATRICK STORIES is not perfect. You are free to say you VIEWS and CONTRIBUTIONS on a post.

Thanks for replying me and giving me an insight about FEMINISM and WOMANISM.
                      Am very happy about this.

                    • I’m not angry with you, we are critically discussing something. Challenging discussions can be beneficial. You are courageous to write about such topics and especially writing about women Patrick ! It’s awesome to see! I personally like it. Women and men can learn different perspectives , views and even about themselves from opposite genders writing about the other. Til our next discussion 🙂

                    • In respect to the mindset I was saying.

I feel blessed by your writing right now.
I found delight love and joy in what you just wrote about women and feminism.

I fully understand that there is also questionable and goes against it.

I will love my own part of the contribution here and the feminist I have come across.

                      Here is the little summary:

I asked a Muslim girl who is my friend on Facebook, an Algerian  girl. She is a blogger also.  After a long chat we discussed some recent issues about women in the Society and likewise Chinanmanda Ngozi Adichie a popular feminist in USA(the writer of purple hibiscus)

So I throw up a question to her

Question- Can you be a Feminist?

                      Her answer(reply)
One thing you should know about feminism is that there are many kinds of feminisms. Not all movements have the same goals and views. I can be a feminist. I might agree with some feminists like Adichie because they speak of troubles women go through in certain places and it makes sense. What I don’t agree with, though, is being a fanatical feminist, those who are fighting just for the sake of fighting. There needs to be a cause and as a Muslim woman, I fully believe that my religion has covered all what a woman needs to have. Islam assures all the rights of women and preserves them very well. So all what we need is to follow the rules of our conviction and work in accordance with them. And then we wouldn’t need a feminist movement at all. Thats my belief.

Again such a beautiful reply. I guess am fully getting to understand this WOMANISM and FEMINISM well.

I Enjoy such topic/post about women.

  9. Patrick- great piece, love that you have strong women in your life (Mother & sister) that inspire your view to honor women like this. My mother led a hard life but the greatest thing she said to me (one of many) was this: You will when you’re ready! She’s right- we all make life choices and get advice, but until we’ve decided on the inside to do something different- we won’t change, or react. But we will…when we’re ready. So know yourself enough to listen to that and your own instinct.

Everything you say is true, for other young women… surround yourself with supporters and helpers, those who pray with you and those who will be there in an instant. Even in your darkest moments- know that a new day is coming and what you’re in right now is only for a bit. Keep going, you can do it.

Thanks for this words you said in the beginning of your comment:

“””” Patrick- great piece, love that you have strong women in your life (Mother & sister) that inspire your view to honor women like this. “””””””

Am happy you shared you own advice you mother gave to you when you were young.
I love that advice (You will when you’re ready!)

That is true. You will do all those things required as a mother when the person has come of age in to be a mother.

As I went further in your comment, you answered my question about the advice to give young mother’s.

I really enjoy the advice you gave to them.
From my understanding I was able to summarized the advice in to 3 parts-

      1. Surround yourself with supporters and helpers,
      2. Surround with those who pray with you and those who will be there in an instant.

      3. Being focus – Even in your darkest moments- know that a new day is coming and what you’re in right now is only for a bit. Keep going, you can do it.

Am happy I came across someone like you. You just inspired me right now. Am happy for that.

  10. Women. . . and my wife in particular, is all you have said and more. My wife is the joy/love of our home. When she is away over-night, my two sons and I (or at least I) notice by conspicuous absence her love not filling our home and lives. Last night and today we watched Dr. Emerson and Sarah Eggerich’s “Love and Respect: The Love She Most Desires, The Respect He Desperately Needs.” This will increasingly defuse our conflict and increasingly increase our harmony.

      • My mom valued the higher education she was not able to have because she was a mom at a young age. She encouraged us children to excel at academics from which I benefit every day. My mom would read to me poems that conveyed wisdom and I have a love of Proverbs in the Bible today. Most of all I appreciate my mom and my dad for taking care of me (and my sister and brother) when times were very tough for them. They worked very hard to give us kids a better start than they had. God has blessed them with a pleasant retirement and they find joy in giving to others. And we will care for them when they need us.

Advice for young mothers? Seek Jesus of the Bible. He loves you infinitely and will guide and defend you. He will give you wisdom, love and peace for your soul.

  11. Hello Patrick, Please find my answers for your question.
1.My Opinion – It is wonderfully written and I could sense the Women’s
    emotions are beautifully portrayed

1.My Contribution – Inspired from a Song in a Tamil Movie Rhythm
Beauty of the River stream can be compared with Full bloomed girl – A girl will be Beautiful & charming nature in her teen and the same applies to a River stream in its peak season
Roaring Water falls can compared with a Wife – Her love with husband can be Compared to a roaring waterfalls
Sea can be compared with Mom – Would you be able to find the depth of Sea ?
In a similar way, A mother love can’t be judged by any means as her affection is equivalent to a sea, as it never be estimated ,as her adoration is extremely special and ONLY her affection is Unconditional in the world and we can’t expect it from any one on the planet.

    2. My mother is a homemaker and her love and affection towards me is so special. If I give a responsibility to her,she will make sure, I don’t face any problems and issues and try to make my life easier, The special thing was, even if she doesn’t know about anything also, she will do it and make sure I will not have any issues .
It is not something just happened one time, it happens all the time :).
I can believe my mom BLINDLY and I really don’t have just one reason for Appreciating my MOM as I have more than 1000 reasons 🙂

    3. Its not so easy for me to answer this question and I would think it would be right to hear from Mothers/Grandmothers to offer advice to Young Mothers

  12. Wow,women are strong beings ,thank you so much for honoring women,of all your writings, I love this the most so far,
If I may quote some of your sentences in reflection to my mum as a woman

-Women sing when they want to cry
-They go without shoe so their children can have some
    – They love unconditionally
-Women knows that hugs and kisses can heal a broken heart.
My mother is such a strong woman who has gone through a lot in life as a wife, she never gave up on us despite of all the shit she went through, she had the option to run away but she never did. We watched her being abused almost everyday, ,we cried her tears while all she did was stay strong for us, every single bit of her life make me cry.

This piece has just reminded me of the strongest woman I know .

Thank you so much for reading my post and for leaving such an honest opinion about women.

I didn’t know I was gonna make a poem to touched someone like you.
I appreciate your time used in reading it. How much you related it to your mum. How much you created some part of the poem you love most.

      As I quote:

“””” Women sing when they want to cry
They go without shoe so their children can have some
      They love unconditionally
Women knows that hugs and kisses can heal a broken heart. “”””””

  13. Tradition and a strong belief in the importance of family was taught by my mother. I am grateful for this inspiration as I see it continue with my children. Family gatherings always include games of some sort. When the weather is nice, we play outdoor games. And bad weather days are spent playing card games, dominoes, board games. Best part – everyone is involved: youngest to oldest.
My grandmother always had a calm about her; even when you knew she wanted to scream or cry. She never let the world get her down. She believed and lived by the thought that we decide how are day will be. She always chose to be happy. 🙂

You lucky to have a mother who taught you alot about family and tradition. Making sure you learn the ethics/rules of the tradition and also the strong importance of family as pertaining what you said in your comment as I quote:

“””‘”””” Tradition and a strong belief in the importance of family was taught by my mother. “””””””‘

  14. Hello Patrick! This is a lovely poem. It is simple as far as literary devices, but accessible to everyone with its very clear message. It is reflective, awareness raising and thought provoking. It is, above all, a most beautiful homage to all women. As for the word feminism, I fully agree with you, it does not mean women’s supremacy over men. The word feminism has unluckily been perverted during these recent years. Feminism basically means the right of equal rights, opportunities and duties for women and men, and trans, and nothing more. Any person (women, men or trans) who believes in all these is a feminist to me. In this sense, you are a feminist, I am a feminist and many more people. I wish certain people stop perverting the real meaning of the word. BTW, thank you so much for the follow. I really appreciate this!

      You are welcome Ms.

Thanks for showing interest in my post/poem. Am happy you made some point clear regarding FEMINISM and FEMINIST.

      Some men get it wrong.

“”””’ It does not mean women’s supremacy over men.””””‘

Some times I keep telling my men counterpart about it, that FEMINISM is all about the right of equal rights, opportunities and duties for women and men.

As i went further in your comment you keep writing more about FEMINIST and FEMINISM.

      You said something about feminist.

For me I like girls who are feminist and am always interested in them when they say “”” I am a feminist “””

I feel blessed by your writing right now. I found delight love and joy in what you just wrote about women. Though am a man but a women gave birth to me.  So I respect then a lot when they air out how they are been accepted as nothing in the society.

I will love my own part of the contribution here and the feminist I have come across.
This is the one that touched me.

We did a long chat. And her response was WOW.

NOTE: “”” Ms “””” was attached here to your name because I believe you are a feminist and you run a feminist blog and also the way the popular FEMINIST Adichie Chimamanda Ngozi says in her book:

According to a popular literature book “””. Dear ijeawele or a feminist manifesto in fifteen suggestions “””

      Here she says:

“”””””‘ Mrs’ is a title I dislike because Nigerian society gives it too much value. I have observed too many cases of men and women who proudly speak of the title of Mrs as though those who
are not Mrs have somehow failed at something. Mrs can be a choice, but to infuse it with as
much value as our culture does is disturbing. The value we give to Mrs means that marriage
changes the social status of a woman but not that of a man. (Is that perhaps why many women
complain of married men still ‘acting’ as though they were single? Perhaps if our society asked
married men to change their names and take on a new title, different from Mr, their behaviour
might change as well? Ha!) But more seriously, if you, a twenty-eight-year-old master’s degree
holder, go overnight frodo Ijeawele Eze to Mrs Ijeawele Udegbunam, surely it requires not just
the mental energy of changing passports and licences but also a psychic change, a new
‘becoming’? This new ‘becoming’ would not matter so much if men, too, had to undergo it.
I prefer Ms because it is similar to Mr. A man is Mr whether married or not, a woman is Ms
      whether married or not.

      • I wouldn’t have something to add on your poem because for me it was just perfect. It is really a good piece that you have right here. From seeing my mother give birth to my younger brother and to see from where we all come, made me understand how strong woman really are. I believe that ALL men should respect woman. It is important for a man to realize the power and strength of a woman. To all the young mothers, it is not about being perfect but never stop doing your best for your child. All they need is LOVE, that is the most important thing to know their mother love them and would do anything for them. And to all mothers, NEVER STOP PRAYING FOR YOUR KIDS. If I am who I am today, it is because my mom never stopped praying for me, even during hard time. Kids are gift from God, always remember that your kids are blessings even if something you might think otherwise. ❤

From the beginning of your comment, I love this part where you said:

“””” I wouldn’t have something to add on your poem because for me it was just perfect. It is really a good piece that you have right here. “”””

Thanks for that compliment. Am happy for that. You just made half day awesome.

Am so happy for the advice you just gave to young mothers. Am able to summarized it in to 2 points:
          1. Love
          2. Prayer

          1. Love – To all the young mothers, it is not about being perfect but never stop doing your best for your child. All they need is LOVE, that is the most important thing to know their mother love them and would do anything for them.

          2. Prayer– And to all mothers, NEVER STOP PRAYING FOR YOUR KIDS. If I am who I am today, it is because my mom never stopped praying for me, even during hard time.

  15. Excellent write up, 💯 true. Mothers are just extra extra wonderful. A mother could go lengths and depths just to see her family smile. She could endure a pain which is so sever and still keep a smiling face…. Sometimes I try to imagine what material or stuff they are actually made of……. My mum was just the best. And whenever I tell her “mummy I can’t be like you ohh, I can’t pass through all this ohh ” she would just smile and say to me “wait till you become a mum and you would do even more than I did”.
Mothers are just the best thing that happened to this world. Imagine life without mothers?.
My advice to young mothers, though am not yet a mum but through experience, I would say young mothers should learn to be patient. Patience is key to having a beautiful home and training your children in the right path using the right manual lol ☺. ……excellent writeup @Patrickstories bravo👍.

Such an awesome way of commenting on someone post. Thanks.Again

Am happy you were able to say a view and able to answer the question put before you in the poem/post.

You comments are well noted .

As I read patiently on your comment on this post/poem.I was able to note 2 solid morals from your comments.

      1. Patience– She could endure a pain which is so sever and still keep a smiling face. Sometimes I try to imagine what material or stuff they are actually made of… My mum was just the best. And whenever I tell her “mummy I can’t be like you ohh, I can’t pass through all this ohh ” she would just smile and say to me “wait till you become a mum and you would do even more than I did”.

      2. Passionate — Mothers are just extra extra wonderful. A mother could go lengths and depths just to see her family smile.

As I read further, this advice to young mother made my morning. I just smiled when I saw this beautiful and noted advice to young mothers.

“”” young mothers should learn to be patient. Patience is key to having a beautiful home and training your children in the right path using the right manual “””’

Patience is just the best key in becoming a mother and in child training.

Thanks for putting up your time in answering these questions. Its my pleasure to get to know you more.

Am very please and happy for such a comment on my poem. This is where I enjoyed most in the beginning-

“””” Hello Patric, I am honoured to have been one of the people who actually read your poem, ‘IN HONOUR OF A WOMAN’, and i have to say, reading each and every line made made me very emotional. “”””””

Is my role to write a poem that will move someone emotional and also think critically about the poem.

Am really sorry you lost your grandma. From what you saying your grandma was one of your favourite person that you lost.

Thanks for the encouragement you gave to me towards the ending of your comment and I really appreciate that so much.

  17. This is so honest and beautiful! I think I’m fortunate that the strong woman in my life is my mom, and she’s consistently shown me that a bit of hard work can change someone else’s life completely. I don’t have enough experience to give any great advice to young mothers, but I would say to always remember how strong you are.

  18. Here is my take on this
Sorry it is quite lengthy. 😊

    1. What’s your opinion and contributions on this post/poem?
I love the simplicity of it all. Every line is real. Every line is truthful. Every line describes all the strong women out there.

We all have good and bad days. At times, when we are down it is often good to be reminded about our inner strength so we could plummet through all the hurdles that come along our way.

2. What are the things your mother have done that are worthy of appreciation?

Too many too mention. But here is a brief summary of how amazing she is.

I’ve seen/assisted/attended to women during their birthing process and mind you it’s not easy. So I thank her for giving me life and showering me all the love that her heart could offer. The endless sacrifices and efforts she has put into me made me who I am today. I am forever grateful.

3.What are your advice to young mothers in the outside world?

My advice to young mothers out there is simple. Love your children with all your heart. Irregardless of age, a mother’s love is still the same. This love could either make or break your child.

Secondly, hold your head high. You are beautiful and most importantly you are strong. No one said being a young mother is easy but remember at the end of a long and hard day, you still have the most beautiful thing life has to offer and that is you child.

As I went further in to reading, I just smiled and I saw something that moved me right now. Am happy for this point/part where you gave a marvellous advice to young mothers out there.

      As I quote from you:
“”” My advice to young mothers out there is simple. Love your children with all your heart. Irregardless of age, a mother’s love is still the same. This love could either make or break your child. “””””

      • I am actually reading your other blog post as well. They were all a good read. I’d like to mention that all the comments posted from you and your readers contributed to building your blog event better.

Thank you for appreciating my opinion. I guess I’ve met a lot of people of different walks of life. My opinion stems from their thoughts as well. So I’d like to give due credit to them as well.

I actually enjoyed giving advice to all the young mother’s out there.

I’ve met a lot of young mothers during my internship and everyone is different. But one mother broke my heart when she refused to look/ hold her child. She probably has her own unspoken reasons but … my only wish is that for all children to be loved irregardless of circumstance. I hope others could share the same sentiments as well.

        Have a good Tuesday 😊

Am happy you went through the comment from other bloggers.

Am happy you gave a back up story on your experience with a young mother during internship ( I’ve met a lot of young mothers during my internship and everyone is different. But one mother broke my heart when she refused to look/ hold her child. She probably has her own unspoken reasons )

I guess that example is good also. It shows you have such experience with mothers in during your internship.

After all things, you just gave an advice by saying:

“”””” my only wish is that for all children to be loved irregardless of circumstance. I hope others could share the same sentiments as well. “”””

One love to all children irregardless of the circumstances/situation they found themself.

Thanks again for such advice to young mothers.

  19. What a thoughtful and appreciative post to your mom and sister!! I hope they were touched by your words.
I think moms make up a special kind of people. Didn’t understand till I had children to love, raise, and protect.
In the Korean culture, it says that moms are resilient and tough (in translation it’s more than tough). Moms can rise up to challenges and face it, something to that degree. I think this can look different in moms who deal with different circumstances.
Thanks for the shot out to recognize all that women do!!

  20. 1. What’s your opinion and contributions on this post/poem?

I love it. I love it. I could relate to it so bad, especially with the mix of emotions. Feeling a thing, and not necessarily showing it as that. I’m a lady, and I’ve seen quite a good number of female appreciation posts so this is pretty head swelling. It sometimes seems like one cares too much, but as I’m able to relate, I know another ton if female can, so I like that I am not alone on that.

    2. What are the things your mother have done that are worthy of appreciation? My mother…Sweety, if you want me to start, your eyes will tire of reading. She is the absolute best. The definition of someone that does not give up on you, still believing, even when I don’t anymore. She is the impersonation of love. Of home. Of Mother.

3.What are your advice to young mothers in the outside world?

To young mothers, I’ll say, take it a day at a time. It never feels like one is doing the best of things, but trust the process. Don’t be wary of asking your Mother when you’re unsure, and don’t think you can do it alone. Your man is there for a reason (several actually 😊)

  21. 1. What’s your opinion and contributions on this post/poem?

It lacks “they’re taller” and “they have more bodyhair” right next “they love unconditionally”.

    2. What are the things your mother have done that are worthy of appreciation?

How she managed family finances, very well, extremely good results. I’m not joking here, it’s true.

    3. What are your advice to young mothers in the outside world?

First, during the pregnancy, to read Chinweizu, the whole bibliography but especially those two:
Decolonising the African Mind, Sundoor, 1987
Anatomy of Female Power: A Masculinist Dissection of Matriarchy, Pero, 1990
Also Esther Vilar,: “The Manipulated Man” and “The Polygamous Sex: A man’s right to the other woman”
    Second, after reading the above:
If they have a male child: to start a blog and write poems celebrating how awesome are men.
If they have a female child: to start a blog and write poems celebrating how awesome are men.
    Third:
Be good at managing family finances.
    Fourth:
Teach to your female child how to manage family finances.
Urge your male child to avoid women who aren’t able to manage family finances.
    Fifth:
Buy a wristwatch to the father. Either Carnival, Nakzen or Starking Chinese brands to get maximum quality at the lowest price – but avoid the 28,800 beats Starking movement, because it’s awesome for its price but it have a short life. Don’t buy Rolex fakes because Rolex are gross – the original Rolex are gross, so even the fakes are. If you have to buy a fake, then just buy a fake Patek Philippe custom made in Taiwan, not in steel with electoplated real gold but rather in solid nordic gold – it’s the yellow alloy used for coins, it’s much cheaper than gold and technically superior in every possible way (it’s even anti-bacterical and hypoallergenic), Request Seiko NH35 or Miyota 9015 movements – to save money: Miyota Super 2035 quartz.

    It’s all.

      • Thank you, humour is quite hard to render through the language barrier, but it seems that I’m improving.
Then there’s a cultural barrier at play: a different social situation, especially regarding to feminism – what you describe and the situation you’re relating to, it seems to me the relationship between the sexes at the time of my grandparents, it’s understandable and mostly right to be “feminist” in such situation. Here things are very different: feminism has devolved into consumerism, women are bombarded by advertising, some have compulsive shopping syndrome, many, really many, are very consumerist.
We have just lost a battle, the battle’s goal was the right for divorced husbands to have their children with them for 40% of the time (notice: 40% is less than half – equality is supposed to be 50%), but since we lost, then it’s still 10% and it’s not going to change any time soon. While the ex-wife still keep 100% of the family house, and 50% of the family income. This would be even acceptable if divorce would happen to just few nuts, let’s say 5% of the married couples. But it actually happen to: 47% couples in Italy, and 71% couples in Portugal – see here divorce:marriage ratio https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divorce_demography
Furthermore, recently introduced laws grants economical rights even to women who live with a man, unformally living together I mean, without signing a marriage contract and without having children. This law is close to robbery, since unformally living together should no grant rights, especially since we’re talking about two free and independent adults without children.

Chinweizu Ibekwe, a great man, immediatly got what was going on in the west when he studied in USA, and his analysis is the most lucid ever made.

In other words: the situation here is so terrible that after my divorce I had to switch from buying vintage Omega and Tissot to buying new Carnival, Nakzen and Starking! 😀
But something good can pans out even from that: I have plans to start a blog about how to buy good quality wristwatches at cheap prices (there’s already the guide, but it’s in Italian – however I will properly translate it): most Chinese brands are crap, but there are few good quality brands at cheap prices, and also some decent quality brands at extremely low prices (so low that everyone can buy them, even a Nigerian manual worker with low wage: but he have to be informed about which is the wristwatch that will break within 3 months, and which one is gonna lasting at least 3-4 years).

        Nice to meet you, Patrick.

          • Hello again Patrick.
Here on the other side of the barricade we’re making some efforts to fight against baby males genital mutilation: we think since Chimamanda Ngozi is uncut then even her brother shouldn’t have be cut without his consent. You now: consent, equality, those apparently silly things…

I thought that Chinweizu fans could collaborate with Chimamanda fans on such particular issue….

            • Thanks for commenting on my work. What you are saying is actually true. But on baby boy mutilation is not pronounce that much because the male child is not expose more than the female child that is expose more.

That is my opinion on it.
